Lego Birthday Cake

Our little man turned 7 and he asked for Lego Movie themed party!

This cake did not turn out as I imagined in my head. My plan was to cover it with red fondant and create a large lego brick. The plan worked, but I totally messed up my red fondant during the coloring process. I ended up using too much to achieve a bright red color, and the end result was a goofy textured fondant.  I covered the cake completely in the red and the brick was made, I wasn't pleased.

I switched gears and started creating Emmett.
I loved the end results with him and after an hour into his creation, I looked over at the red brick and realized that Emmett looked too good in comparison to the large brick. I swallowed the sadness of wasted time spent on coloring a huge piece of fondant, and went to work removing all the hard work.

It was 2 am at this time, so I used the rest of my icing and covered the cake in a completely different way, allowing Emmet to be the main focal point.

Early the next morning after I took Haiden to school, I looked at the cake and thought how it looked as if it were missing something. And then it hit me, Emmett was lonely.

I set to work creating Wildstyle.

While this might not be my most favorite cake ever, it was fun and good experience.

That afternoon after I picked up our son, he ran to see the cake and said, "Wow mom those figures look almost real!" At least there was that- he was happy. ;)

Super Why birthday cake

Whose got the power, the power to read?!

Super Why!

Our little guy wanted a Super Why theme birthday party this year. As it turns out, Super Why toys are no longer in stores which means those figures sell for quite a good amount of money on ebay. Of course, we no longer have our old figures from when our oldest was 3... so I had to improvise with the figures.

I ended up printing off pictures, laminating those, and then sticking them on the cake. I think it turned out nicely!  (a special thanks to my neighbor who printed them off for me since I completely forgot to buy ink)

Gender Reveal cake!

I had a friend ask rather last minute if I could make a gender reveal cake! She wanted a simple cake to share with her family. I went with sloppy icing swirls in blue and pink with a colorful *pink* center in honor of a baby girl!

Home of the giant whoopsie cookie cake!

Michaels official birthday cake is a giant whoopsie cookie cake!

A fews years ago, a nieghbor brought us some chocolate sandwich cookies- Michael loved them so much so I began nagging my neighbor for the recipe. The cookies look very similar to whoopie pies, so I wasn't surprised to see the recipe was indeed similar. It was just a different variation of a whoopie pie called a sandwhich cookie.

Most of my friends know I do not like chocolate so cooking with chocolate is hard as I cannot tell if each recipe is success or epic fail.

One of the times I tried making these cookies I made a "whoopsie" and most of the cookies baked together. So instead of calling that a fail, I poured the yummy homemade frosting on top and thought, "huh, well I guess I could make one huge sandwhich cookie?"

Michael sure loved my whoopsie!

So the next time around I added a tad bit more mix to give it fluff and the giant whoopsie cookie cake was created!

It has been his once a year birhday cake ever since!

Frozen Birthday

I had such a fun time creating a Frozen themed birthday cake for a friend of mine!

Being pressed for time I had to keep it simple with an iced cake.
I only used a tiny bit of fondant for the snowflakes.
I think it turned out great though!

Finished cake at the party:

Notes for next time: I need to practice my icing penmanship. I was going for a thick snow look, which turned out good, but I do wish I would have had the next smaller size icing tip.
