Jake and the Neverland Pirates -Treasure Chest- Birthday

Treasure Chest
[Jake and the Never Land Pirates theme]

I got to make a cake for a friend's son's birthday party!

It was such fun to make and a great learning experience too!

I tried to make this cake resemble what the actual team treasure chest looks like on the tv show-- which I'm going to say I was successful at!

I snapped a shot with the flash up-close to get a nice picture of its glossy look!

The best part is probably the treasure inside or the M&M's spilling out after it was cut! Such fun!

Overall I was happy with how it turned out!

Trouble shooting notes: The chest ended up being extremely heavy. Under pressure, I had to use dowel rods to hold together a corner that tried to buckle out.  So, next time when molding with cake and adding candy in the center, I will go with a pound cake or some type that is dense and can handle weight better.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Birthday

TMNT Birthday Party!
This cake was so much fun to make!

Our son had his birthday party in MS, so I worried that it was going to a bit stressful to make a cake after an 11hr drive and to make it in a place I'd never made a cake before and without a ton of my tools, etc because there was just no way to bring everything just in case.
But, surprisingly it wasn't stressful at all.
I chalk that up to this not being my first cake or second or third to create.
It gave me a sense of confidence.
I can do this.
This is my creation- without ever having taken classes, and I am proud.
I can see the mistakes, but in those I learn!
Practice is making all the difference.
And--Of course, I do have an awesome Meme who has given several pointers and advise-- all of which I needed and without them mister Leo might not be sitting there.

"High 3!"
The turtles only have 3 fingers.... ;)

Up close pic of the mouth, which was definitely one of the parts I was kinda worried about.
A mouth is quite important to a head as a whole, so it needed to good enough so as not to throw off the entire cake.

After our sons birthday party in MS, we had another smaller party in MO. I definitely was not going to make another cake, but I thought of Ooze filled cupcakes! And since I just so happened to be in MS, I told Meme about my idea and lets just say she came to the rescue!
We made watermelon flavored ooze in a matter of minutes!
It worked out perfectly!

Jake and the Neverland Pirates Birthday

I loved how colorful this cake was!! The added fun of details was probably my favorite. And as with every cake I make, I learn something. This time around I learned that the best idea is to work out those fun details first. I mostly just went at this cake and added as I went which is sadly what happened to my water fall. Poor it. So overlook my failure in the water and check out the palm trees! ;)

This is it before the palm trees were added that next morning.
